What is a muscle knot, why does it happen and what you can do to relieve it

Updated: Nov 15, 2019

A muscle knot, or trigger point, is a tender bump-like area in a muscle that is caused by muscle fibers, or the casing called fascia, tightening up. Trigger points can happen from a muscle injury or strain. Small micro tears can happen in the muscle tissue fibers and as it heals, it contracts and twists. When these muscle fibers are knotted, the fresh blood supply is restricted as the muscle shortens to protect itself. Call 585-766-4987 and make an appointment with me and I will massage out the knots and the pain!
